Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register my sample?
Go to app.animalbiome.com to create an account, and complete your dog’s Pet Profile.
Select “Register Sample” at the top of the page. Enter the six-character ID code listed on the front of your instruction guide.
Please note that your sample must be registered in order for our scientists to complete the analysis.
Is my sample safe in the mail?
Yes, your sample is safe. The sample tubes contain a special liquid that keeps the bacteria perfectly preserved for analysis, across a very wide range of temperatures. Once inside the tube, the sample is safe for several months.
When will I receive my results?
You can expect to receive your results about 2-3 weeks after the sample arrives at our lab.
How can the Gut Restore Supplement improve my dog’s health?
By seeding your dog’s microbiome with all the right bacteria in the right proportions, the capsules can help reestablish balance and resolve symptoms. When dogs with digestive symptoms, skin issues, or immune system problems turn out to be missing certain important gut bacteria, we need to add those missing members to the microbiome and help the new populations grow and thrive.
The Gut Restore Supplement provides a whole community of healthy dog-specific microbes. The capsule’s enteric coating prevents it from dissolving until it reaches the intestines, where the contents “seed” your dog’s gut with a diverse array of healthy bacteria, restoring any missing groups.
Where do you get the material for Gut Restore Supplements?
Our Gut Restore Supplements for dogs are derived from stool donated by healthy pet dogs that live in homes and have been carefully screened for health, age, fecal consistency, behavior, and microbiome composition (based on DNA sequencing).
Donor stool samples are submitted for parasites and pathogen screening to the Idexx Reference Laboratories, the leading veterinary diagnostics company, which has stringent quality control guidelines and well-validated standard operating procedures.
All dog donor material is regularly screened for parasites and pathogens:
- Dogs are screened for the following pathogens via PCR: Clostridium perfringens CPnetEF toxin gene, Clostridium perfringens Enterotoxin Gene, Campylobacter coli, Campylobacter jejuni, canine distemper virus, canine enteric coronavirus, canine parvovirus 2, canine circovirus, Clostridium difficile toxin A, Clostridium difficile toxin B, Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia spp., Salmonella spp.
- Dogs are screened for the following parasites via ELISA: Hookworms, Roundworms, and Whipworms
- Dogs are screened for ova and parasites using fecal floatation.
Is the supplement right for my dog?
An extremely wide range of dogs have benefited from the Gut Restore Supplement, ranging in age from 2 months to 17 years. The vast majority of dogs see improvement in their digestive issues, food allergies and intolerances, and/or skin issues.
While this supplement is natural and intended to gently repopulate the microbiome, it does contain high numbers of healthy bacteria that can be overwhelming to medically unstable dogs. If your dog is severely underweight or requires frequent hospitalization, we recommend checking with your veterinarian to see if the supplement is right for your dog.

I found out about Animal Biome through a Facebook site. I have been working with our dog Milo for well over a year trying to ascertain why he was having so many allergic reactions (hotspots) to food. I tried hair and follicle testing, an ultrasound which suggested possible IBD, as well as blood allergy testing and numerous other
blood tests, home cooking, etc. to try and help him out. We have been working with an integrative veg and when I mentioned Animal Biome to her she said she does not have experience with the company but suggested we give it a try. After testing we found that he was lacking in healthy bacteria even after home cooking on a balanced diet and supplements such as pre and probiotics. We did a round of Gut Restore pills and he had improved quite a bit. However, we decided to do another round. After that was finished, we were about to test once again and he had another flare up after moving him to a freeze dried diet - our vet has now advised that he can not tolerate a raw diet and we are back to home cooking. We’re happy to report that with the home cooking and s boulardii + FOS supplement he is improving daily. While we are not quite there in repairing his leaky gut, we are confident that using the Animal Biome products have gone a long way in improving his health!
Our 10 year old German Shepherd was having bouts of diarrhea every week or so. We took the Gut Health Test and while waiting on the results, started him on the Gut Restore Supplement right away. The test results were quite enlightening. We then added the S. boulardii + FOS powder. He's on his second bottle of the Gut Restore and I'm happy to say it's been 5 weeks and no diarrhea! We've also noticed he has more energy. We're very pleased with the results!
My dog Eddie had chronically loose stools with intermittent bouts of diarrhea. After consulting with 2 vets, a specialist and a nutritionist I found Animal Biome. All of it made sense with what I had observed with Eddie (he was diagnosed earlier with C Diff) so I decided to shelve the plans for biopsies and endoscopes and start Ed on Gut Restore.
We are planning on sending in our third test next month. There were major improvements to his biome in the first round of Gut Restore but it wasn't perfect, so we continued 3 months. His poops are so normal now I can barely remember how bad things had gotten. Ed is now on Gut Maintenance and has not lost any of his poop quality.
Gut restore is a great, great place to start if you are dealing with intractable stool issues that vets are just not solving. It is a very reasonable price compared with tests run through vet offices and is really simple (and non-invasive!). I can only hop[e that everyone who is faced with this issue can benefit as much as Eddie has since December 2021.
I had hopes that this would help my girl and it still might but currently she’s still vomiting once a week. I think your company is amazing and believe the science behind it. I’ve done every test possible on her except an endoscopy and biopsy. Nothing really shows up in the tests so thought with her biome being out of balance I might see improvement by now. Not giving up but a bit disappointed it hasn’t helped yet. Keep up the good work. Many dogs probably do benefit from this treatment.
My doggy was experiencing hot spots and the 30 day gut starter kit was all he needed to get him healthy again. Thank you AnimalBiome for the service and the amazing customer service throughout the process!
