Laboratory Technician

We are looking for a full-time Laboratory Technician to join our growing team in Oakland, California. The Laboratory Technician will report to the Director of Animal Care. The Laboratory Technician must be comfortable handling animal feces (mostly from cats and dogs but also other animals including mice, rabbits, ferrets, and horses) in a laboratory setting. We take all appropriate safety and biohazard precautions, but applicants should understand that handling stool on a daily basis will be required. Ability to maintain a high degree of cleanliness and organization are crucial.

 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Contributing to the running of a stool bank of material from healthy cats and dogs
  • Processing donations
  • Preparing material for diagnostic testing for parasites and pathogens
  • Preparing material for delivery in veterinary clinics as well as in capsules
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment
  • Performing inventories

Director of Veterinary Relations

The Director of Veterinary Relations (DVR) reports to the ABV Sales and Marketing Lead and is responsible for the education and training of ABV customers. In addition, the DVR is the face of ABV to the veterinary community and helps build customer relationships and promote and sell ABV products.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Builds new veterinary relationships by attending and presenting talks at conferences and industry events
  • Helps promote and sell ABV products via email, social media, digital advertising, podcasts, and webinars
  • Builds and updates best in class sales, on-boarding, and training programs
  • Leads the “Lunch and Learn” process and works with the ABV Sales Associate to schedule and plan these events
  • Works with Sales Manager and On-Boarding Sales Associate to train and onboard new customers
  • Helps answer veterinarian/vet tech questions about Gut Microbiome Health Test and Oral Microbiome Health Test results
  • Maintains and updates treatment codes
  • Liaison with Animal Care Team (Customer Service)
  • Liaison with Science Team and the AnimalBiome Chief Science Officer
  • Collaborates on content creation and review for veterinary topics
  • Engages Chief Veterinary Officer as appropriate on difficult treatment cases
  • Assists Chief Veterinary Officer in creating conference presentations as needed

 

Skills and Requirements:

  • DVM or equivalent from an accredited school of veterinary medicine
  • 3+ years experience in a veterinary practice
  • Excellent oral and written communications

Veterinary Onboarding Specialist

The Veterinary Onboarding Specialist (VOS) reports to the AnimalBiome Veterinary (ABV) Head of Sales and Marketing and is responsible for the education and training of ABV customers. In addition, the VOS will help build customer relationships, making sure our clients are fully trained and set up using our products and best practices.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Builds new veterinary relationships by onboarding veterinary practices including veterinarians, administration, vet- techs, and receptionists
  • Helps promote and sell ABV products via email, social media, digital advertising, podcasts, and webinars
  • Works with the Director of Veterinary Relations (DVR) to train and onboard new customers
  • Liaison with Animal Care Team (Customer Service)
  • Collaborates with DVR for content creation and review
  • Engages DVR and or Chief Veterinary Officer as appropriate on difficult treatment cases
  • Assists Veterinary Head of Sales in creating module presentations as needed
  • Attends Veterinarian Conferences for lead creation and relationship building purposes

 

Skills and Requirements:

  • Veterinary Technician experience preferred
  • 3+ years experience in a veterinary practice
  • Excellent oral and written communications

Head of Consumer Marketing

The Head of Consumer Marketing reports to the Chief Marketing & Sales Officer and is responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing the annual marketing plan for the DoggyBiome and KittyBiome brands. The Head of Consumer Marketing manages the consumer marketing team, DTC e-commerce store (.com), and all aspects of performance marketing (FB/Google ads). They are also responsible for managing the affiliate marketing program, .com SEO, and the wholesale store (.biz).

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Manages the consumer marketing team
  • Leads the brand and helps build strong brand equity
  • Responsible for delivering the consumer brands (.com + bricks and mortar) sales plan
  • Leads the annual marketing plan process for consumer brands
  • Manages all aspects of performance marketing including the development and execution of Facebook and Google ad campaigns to help deliver consumer marketing plans
  • Works with the consumer brands design team to create new performance ad campaigns and to refresh existing ones
  • Analyzes performance of performance ad campaigns and adjusts targets/creative as needed; ensures that consumer brands acquisition funnel is full at all times (awareness, purchase, repeat)
  • Works with Facebook and Google marketing experts to optimize campaigns and ensure that consumer and veterinary brands leverage best practices and any emerging marketing technologies
  • Works with programmatic advertising agency to develop ad campaigns that help deliver Consumer and Veterinary brand plans
  • Works with Consumer Brand design team to build and improve a best-in-class UX on .com ecommerce site
  • Supports our expansion into bricks and mortar with point of sale material / displays and promotions / coupons to ensure sell-through
  • Partners with the Director of Content and SEO to build content and SEO strategies and plans - monitors those plans for performance
  • Manages Google Merchant account and ensures that organic and paid shopping is optimized for consumer brands
  • Manages the company affiliate marketing program (transition from Glen)
  • Works with affiliate marketing agency to analyze and optimize affiliate marketing program

 

Required Skills:

  • B.S. or B.A. degree, M.B.A. preferred
  • Five plus years of experience managing a consumer brand (ideally in both DTC e-commerce and bricks and mortar)
  • Three plus years of Facebook and Google performance advertising experience
  • Experience managing a programmatic digital ad agency
  • Excellent analytical skills and strong understanding of Excel and Google Analytics
  • Excellent listening, verbal communication, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a matrixed cross-functional team environment

Research Associate, Bioinformatics

AnimalBiome seeks a full-time Research Associate in Bioinformatics to join our growing team. The Research Associate will report to the Chief Scientific Officer and the Director of Research.

 

The Research Associate will work closely with and under the mentorship of the Computational and Microbial Discovery Teams, to analyze data on animal microbiomes and bacterial isolates. The Research Associate will primarily assist in developing, maintaining, and optimizing analysis pipelines for 16S rRNA analysis, bacterial genome assembly, and metagenomic analysis. This position requires strong command line experience, proficiency in at least one programming language (R, Python, Perl), and a desire to learn and apply new computational skills. This job will be widely varied, and the ideal candidate will be excited by regular involvement in different tasks and necessary skillsets. The role will be located in Oakland, CA at AnimalBiome’s offices, with opportunity for part-time or full-time remote work if desired.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Run and maintain existing pipelines for 16S rRNA amplicon data
  • Work with Computational Team and Microbial Discovery team to identify and describe bacterial isolates, including developing and improving pipelines for bacterial isolate genome assembly, metagenomic data assembly and binning, and bacterial genome announcements
  • Contribute to analysis and visualization of microbiome data from field trials in companion animals
  • Ensure quality and integrity of data and codebase
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of work, including version control with GitHub

Key Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Genetics, or related field
  • 0 - 4 years’ industry experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, or similar role
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably R, or Python, Perl, as demonstrated by GitHub contributions, publications, or similar
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Excellent problem-solving ability, flexible and solution seeking attitude
  • Experience with remote compute servers (AWS), SQL, and/or Geneious a plus
  • Familiarity with principles of microbiology, molecular biology techniques (e.g. DNA extraction, PCR), and high-throughput sequencing through laboratory research or coursework is a plus

 


Consumer and Corporate Packaging and Website Designer

The Consumer and Corporate Packaging and Website Designer is a part of the Design Center of Excellence (COE) reporting to the Head of Consumer Marketing and is responsible for all aspects of graphic design for the DoggyBiome and KittyBiome brands, primarily packaging, advertising, and website design. They are also responsible for design for our AnimalBiome corporate brand and for our wholesale business.

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Partners with all members of Design COE to help build and develop a best-in-class design function at AnimalBiome
  • Leads the design function for our consumer and corporate brands and helps build strong brand equity
  • Manages UX/UI for animalbiome.com (corporate), doggybiome.com and kittybiome.com (consumer), and animalbiome.biz (wholesale) websites
  • Designs and manages graphics for consumer brands packaging
  • Partners with operations team and packaging vendors to maintain a proper supply of packaging inventory
  • Works with CEO and CMO on corporate design needs (board decks, customer presentations, etc.)
  • Works with outside brand design agency to establish and maintain consumer and corporate brand standards
  • Analyzes website user experience via user testing and Google Analytics and proactively makes recommendations to improve website UX/UI
  • Supports consumer marketing team email marketing, performance marketing, and social media efforts
  • Supports our expansion into bricks and mortar with design of point of sale material / displays and promotions / coupons
  • Partners with the Director of Content and SEO to build best-in-class blog content on consumer websites
  • Supports the company affiliate marketing program

 

Required Skills:

  • B.S. or B.A. degree or design degree equivalent
  • Three plus years of experience in consumer brand and packaging design
  • Three plus years of UX/UI design experience, ideally in a DTC or fast-moving CPG company
