We are looking for a full-time Laboratory Technician to join our growing team in Oakland, California. The Laboratory Technician will report to the Director of Animal Care. The Laboratory Technician must be comfortable handling animal feces (mostly from cats and dogs but also other animals including mice, rabbits, ferrets, and horses) in a laboratory setting. We take all appropriate safety and biohazard precautions, but applicants should understand that handling stool on a daily basis will be required. Ability to maintain a high degree of cleanliness and organization are crucial.
Responsibilities may include:
- Contributing to the running of a stool bank of material from healthy cats and dogs
- Processing donations
- Preparing material for diagnostic testing for parasites and pathogens
- Preparing material for delivery in veterinary clinics as well as in capsules
- Maintaining laboratory equipment
- Performing inventories
