About Saccharomyces boulardii

S. boulardii is a special probiotic that’s a strain of yeast, not bacteria. Studies have shown that S. boulardii is safe and effective for preventing and reducing diarrhea from multiple causes. It has anti-inflammatory properties. As a probiotic, it is especially helpful for regrowing gut microbe populations that have become imbalanced and for promoting healthy skin.

And unlike bacterial probiotics, S. boulardii isn’t affected by antibiotics, so it can also be used during antibiotic treatment to help with the digestive side effects that antibiotics often cause. In fact, studies have shown that when S. boulardii is given along with an antibiotic, pets are much less likely to develop diarrhea during or after the course of medication.

S. boulardii is also resilient to stomach acid, so when it reaches the intestines, it’s still intact and alive, while many bacterial probiotics die in the stomach and never make it to the gut. Once in the gut, S. boulardii provides food for beneficial microbes, supporting a healthy, diverse microbiome.

About Fructooligosaccharides (FOS)

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are tiny, soluble fibers. The raw material from which the FOS in our S. boulardii + FOS is produced is Non-GMO beet sugar*. These particular fibers are prebiotic, meaning that they are the preferred food of beneficial microbes like the ones in your pet’s gut. Making sure all the beneficial members of the gut microbiome get enough of the right food is crucial not just for healthy digestion but also for a strong immune system, healthy skin, and even a happy mood. Studies have shown that adding FOS to a cat’s diet improves gut health and that FOS in particular offers greater benefits for cats than other prebiotic fibers.

*The geographical origin of the Non-GMO beet sugar is as follows: Netherlands, Poland, Denmark, France, Germany, U. K.

Something that works

Our cat had been struggling with diarrhea for about a year. Our vet tried everything. Ran every test and nothing. Did the animalbiome gut restore and maintenance which helped. Then started him in this which has worked wonders and his stool is now normal and consistent. Only issue is the bottle crystalizes/hardens when it gets low. Which the last bit is wasted. Capsule form would be great and would ensure he’s getting it all.

Great for Diarrhoea

We had a hospitalised stray cat that had many issues, and had a sudden onset of diarrhoea. Decided to let him try this since I just bought it but my cats didn’t need it. It helped immensely-just after the 1st dose, his poop started slowly firming up. So in the end he only needed a few doses. Also realised that they get very easily constipated with hard stools if they take it as a maintenance supplement though. So we only offer this when they have diarrhoea.

Works very well

My cat has cerebellar hyperplasia and it seems to entail chronic diarrhea. I e tried all kinds of foods and Fresh Pet helps a bit but this supplement has made a real difference. My only complaint is that it gets moist and cakes up, making it hard to scoop. If it came in a capsule like the other Kitty Biome probiotic, which I’ve also used, that would be better, as I could open it up and sprinkle over the food. I find this product works better, though.

Thank you for leaving a review. We hear you on the caking issues that some customers have experienced. Look out for the new and improved jar that includes a moisture barrier.

Finally!!

My 13 y/o calico has hyperthyroidism which causes loose stools. I have recently added KittyBiome S. boulardii + FOS powder and psyllium husk powder to her diet twice a day and she now has partially formed stool. I will continue to use this product in hopes of healing her gut. Just as humans, the gut must be healed in order for the body to follow. Next step is radioactive iodine treatment. I also give this powder to my 15 y/o and have noticed no problems. Also, after several doctor appointments and multiple stool specimens tested they could not find any issues. I decided to test with AnimalBiome and found a multitude of problems that the specialty vet did not test for. I am so grateful for this company for giving me the tools to treat my babies!
