The Gut Health Test report gives you the tools to understand your cat’s everyday digestive health. Using DNA sequencing, we analyze the bacteria in the sample and compare it to our healthy cat reference set to determine if an imbalance is present.

The test kit includes everything you need to collect a stool sample from your cat, and send it back to us for assessment. You will receive a detailed report to understand and help restore your cat’s health.

Collect a sample. The microbiome test kit includes everything you’ll need to collect a small sample of your cat’s stool.

Register your cat’s sample. Create an account at app.animalbiome.com, complete your cat’s profile, and enter the six-character ID code listed on the front of your instruction guide.

Send your sample. The kit includes a pre-addressed mailer with prepaid postage in the US for use when sending back your sample.

We analyze your sample. Using DNA sequencing, we identify the types and proportions of all the bacteria found in your cat’s stool sample and compare it to our healthy reference set..

Receive your report. In about 2-3 weeks (from receipt of sample), you will receive an email notification when your test results are ready. Access your cat’s report via our online Pet Portal. The report will provide actionable information for you to discuss with your veterinarian.

Mystery Solved

Our cat is five years old and for the last three years has been an excessive groomer to the point of causing infection and significant hair loss on her belly. We'd tried special diets, allergy shots, and a number of other things. Last summer one of her vets recommended doing the KittyBiome test. At the time, it was a bit more expensive than our budget allowed. By December we were able to do it and also the Gut Restore. What we learned from the test helped us figure out what was out of whack with her. We've had to do a few rounds of the Gut Restore and seen more and more long lasting improvement with each round and are cautiously optimistic that we've finally solved this mystery. It was definitely worth the money.

What is fecal microbiome testing and what are the benefits?

Fecal microbiome testing is the process of sequencing bacterial DNA material from a small fecal sample. We can detect all known bacteria from your cat’s stool sample and then provide you with a comprehensive report.

Testing a cat’s microbiome provides insights into their health. Then imbalances in specific gut bacteria can be addressed to help alleviate such symptoms as diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and itchy skin that may be associated with some chronic health conditions.

How do I register my sample?

Go to app.animalbiome.com to create an account, and complete your cat’s Pet Profile.

Select “Register Sample” at the top of the page. Enter the six-character ID code listed on the front of your instruction guide.

Please note that your sample must be registered in order for our scientists to complete the analysis.

Is my sample safe in the mail?

Yes, your sample is safe. The sample tubes contain a special liquid that keeps the bacteria perfectly preserved for analysis, across a very wide range of temperatures. Once inside the tube, the sample is safe for several months.

When will I receive my results?

You can expect to receive your results about 2-3 weeks after the sample arrives at our lab.
