The info I was sooo needing to know.

I am very happy I decided to use the Doggy Biome Gut Health Test for my dog. I felt something was not right in my dogs gut, and I was not receiving any good results from my local vet. The info I received from Doggy Biome and having a 15 min phone conversation with a Vet from Doggy Biome was wonderful. Report was extensive, understandable, and also gave suggested protocol for helping repair my dogs gut health. The vet was thorough at explaining report, listening to my concerns and giving me a plan to proceed with for care. I highly recommend Doggy Biome.

Invaluable information

I have a pure bred Frenchie who has had issues with her ears and paw licking. We worked with a natural vet who recommended these tests and turns out she has a severely imbalanced microbiome. The information and dietary recommendations have definitely helped us manage this - her ears are better and she’s far less obsessed with licking her paws. We’ll definitely do this periodically to help get her back in balance. If only we Could get the gut restore shipped to the UK!

Good information

I have struggled with my Goldens digestive issues since he was 8 weeks old. He's almost 4 now. We have already done extensive blood work and sent off poop samples to be analyzed. The only thing that came back was a small bit of giardia and clostridium. This test showed deficiencies in good bacteria, lots of bad bacteria, and his clostridium level was quite high. He had already been on the gut renew for 7 weeks so not sure how that speaks to the bacteria findings but I did start him on a supplement that is to help combat the clostridium. I'll finish that jar and test again to see if anything changes. So far his poops have been better.

This Place Saved My Dog's Life

My husband's Service Dog kept getting gastritis and diarrhea. She was sick about every other month, was picky about food, I couldn't get her to eat and was so frustrated. My daughter suggested a canine nutritionist (I rolled my eyes but said it can't hurt). She suggested the Animal Biome system to see what was wrong with my Sophie. It came back she was severely overloaded on E-Coli and was sadly lacking in many beneficial bacteria. She had been on Flagyl repeatedly, which was part of the problem. After getting her review, I discussed it with the nutritionist and with the Animal Biome people and gave her Gut Restore. She will be on her 4th bottle of Gut Restore as soon as I get it. She has episodic bacteria still but has improved 1000% already. She no longer refuses to eat. We've had to give her several supplements to correct her bacteria. Sophie was not happy having to eat broccoli and green beans but hidden in ground turkey helped.

Her gut is healthy for the most part. She has kept weight on and has so much energy. She plays like a puppy.

I love this place! I'm forever grateful for the change they have made in her life. I refer them all the time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my sample includes dirt or other contaminants?

It is okay if you are not able to collect a sample that is completely free of dirt or other environmental particles, but cleaner samples can be processed more quickly. Just try your best!

What harmful bacteria (pathogens) does the Gut Health Test detect?

The DoggyBiome Gut Health Test report will measure the relative abundance of each of these types of harmful bacteria found in your dog’s sample:

  • Clostridium perfringens
  • Escherichia coli
  • Campylobacter upsaliensis
  • Clostridioides difficile
  • Salmonella enterica
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Staphylococcus intermedius
  • Campylobacter jejuni
  • Clostridium piliforme

What beneficial bacteria does the Gut Health Test screen for and what makes them ‘beneficial’?

The DoggyBiome Gut Health Test can detect:

  • Clostridium hiranonis (Peptacetobacter hiranonis)
  • Turicibacter sanguinis
  • Faecalibacterium spp.
  • Blautia spp.
  • Fusobacterium spp.
  • Subdoligranulum spp.
  • Megasphaera spp.
  • Bifidobacterium spp.
  • Bacteroides spp.

Scientific research has identified these types of bacteria as beneficial for both gut health and host health in dogs. All gut bacteria fulfill different roles; beneficial ones can help with reducing inflammation, producing important molecules, improving immune system function, aiding in digestion and metabolism, and other important aspects of host health.

Will this test show me if my pet has a parasitic infection?

The Gut Health Test looks specifically at the bacterial microbiome, which does not include parasites like Giardia, hookworms, or roundworms.

Will this test tell me what foods my dog is allergic to?

The Gut Health Test looks at the bacteria present in the microbiome, which will not provide information on food allergies or intolerances.

What is fecal microbiome testing and what are the benefits?

Fecal microbiome testing is the process of sequencing bacterial DNA material from a small fecal sample. We can detect and identify the bacteria from your dog’s stool sample and then provide you with a comprehensive report.

Testing a dog’s microbiome provides insights into their health. Then imbalances in specific gut bacteria can be addressed to help alleviate such symptoms as diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and itchy skin that may be associated with some chronic health conditions.

Will my sample be safe in the mail?

Yes, your sample is safe. The sample tubes contain a special liquid that keeps the bacteria perfectly preserved for analysis, across a very wide range of temperatures. Once inside the tube, the sample is safe for several months.

How long does it take to get my dog’s test results?

Reports are typically sent within two weeks from when the samples arrive at our laboratory.
